We sat down with Adam, diving into is life at Cubic, his inspirations, and his favourite projects.
When and why did you join Cubic Motion?
I joined Cubic Motion 5 years ago, one year after I finished my animation degree at University. I hadn’t actually heard of Cubic Motion when I was approached about a Junior Animation role, but as soon as I started researching the company and the games they had worked on, I knew I really wanted to be part of it. My interview day meeting the team was very enjoyable; as well as interesting work, it seemed like a fun and relaxed team to be part of. The recruitment process was very efficient – which was great – and I quickly heard about the outcome.
What do you do?
I am now an Animation Director – I oversee the quality of animation for Cubic Motion. I enjoy the creative control I have, working with our skilled team to share my vision of high-quality results. It’s great to be able to use the experience I’ve developed during my time with the company and share it with others.
How has your role changed since you started at Cubic?
When I joined Cubic Motion as a Junior Animator, I never would have believed the role I’ve now attained 5 years later, hard work is definitely rewarded. By doing my best work in each role and growing alongside the business, I’ve been able to progress and work on a broad range of different projects, things that I never imagined when I first started.
What do you like about working here?
I like the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly community I am part of. We’re very social, and there’s so much to get involved in if you want to. The business is flexible and accommodating so you can fit life and work together. Our focus is on working hard to deliver the best output, not being tied to fixed business hours for the sake of it.
I have enjoyed working for our Director of Production, Mike – he truly leads by example, working hard to deliver the highest quality of work. He gives ongoing feedback helping me to continually develop.
What’s been your proudest moment at Cubic Motion so far?
I really enjoyed delivering the Spiderman project. The final product came out just as we imagined. The external recognition it’s gotten has been amazing, including the awards it’s won. Insomniac have credited us and given lots of shout outs too which brings a real sense of satisfaction. I’m proud to see it on the side of a bus and think, “I played a part in delivering that.”
What development have you had?
I’ve had a lot of on-the-job coaching and opportunities to soak up other people’s experience across the business.
What does the future look like?
It’s hard to say, as Cubic Motion is ever-changing. The one certainty is that I will definitely continue to work on a wide variety of projects with clients who have differing styles and requirements. And that’s exciting!
